Find out what makes a Japanese passage difficult.
Hane’s Japanese text analyzer turns an unspaced passage into a vocabulary map. Paste a sentence, news excerpt, story, or study note to inspect readings and meanings, estimate its JLPT range, and decide what to learn before you read it closely.
Word readings and definitions
Focus a highlighted segment to see its kana reading and English Jitendex definition. Common inflected words are linked to a likely dictionary form where available.
JLPT vocabulary profile
See matches across N5, N4, N3, N2, and N1 in one distribution. Use the result to spot advanced vocabulary before choosing a text for reading practice.
Reading difficulty estimate
The 0–100 score combines listed vocabulary, kanji levels, sentence length, and selected grammar signals. It is a comparative study aid—not an official JLPT grade.
How to use the result
Turn a difficult sentence into a short study list.
- Paste Japanese text. Use a passage you genuinely want to read, up to 12,000 characters.
- Open unfamiliar words. Check the reading, definition, base form, and color-coded JLPT estimate.
- Review the outliers. Start with the few words above your current level, then return to the complete passage.
